How to remove chewing gum from clothes

Chewing gum can notoriously end up in places where it doesn’t belong, and sometimes that involves our clothes too. Chewing gum stains may seem daunting, but with the right method, you can easily tackle the issue. And how exactly? Read on to discover all you need to know about how to get chewing gum out of your clothes.

6 steps on how to remove chewing gum from your clothes

  • 1

    Freeze the gum

Chewing gum becomes hard if it’s not been chewed on for a while, and this is true when chewing gum is on your clothes too. Apply cold on the gum, and when frozen, it’s so much easier to remove it. You can either stick your garment into the freezer or hold an ice cube onto it for 30 seconds or more.

  • 2

    Remove gum

Once the gum is hard, simply peel it off by hand.

  • 3

    Load a washing machine

Place the stained garment into the washer, along with other similar items.

  • 4

    Dose washing liquid

Use the cap to ensure you use the right amount of washing liquid. Make sure you dose correctly and place the cap in your washing machine, on top of your clothes.

  • 5

    Wash your clothes

Wash your clothes on your usual cycle, at the hottest wash temperature allowed by the instructions on the garment’s fabric care label.

  • 6

    Unload the washing machine

When the cycle is complete, unload the garments immediately.
