How clothes get clean

How clothes get clean intro

When you put your clothes into your machine and add detergent, you expect it to come out clean. But how do they actually get clean? We reveal what needs to happen for your clothes to emerge looking clean and smelling fresh.

The three forces

Washing relies on three types of energy: heat (wash temperature), agitation (cycle choice), and chemistry (detergent). As the washing temperature drops, so the role of chemistry and agitation increases. This means that if you lower the washing temperature the detergent needs to compensate for this. Ariel’s designed to work brilliantly at 30°C – and Ariel Excel Gel cleans at temperatures as low as 15°C.
